Speakers of a conference in connection with Kashmir EU Week at EU parliament urged the International community to help peaceful resolution of Kashmir issue.
The conference titled, “What Can the European Parliament Do about the Situation in Kashmir?” was moderated by former Ambassador of EU Mr Anthony Crasner. Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, MEP Dr Sajjad Karim, Senior Minister Ch Tariq Farooq, Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raza Syed, MEP Wajid Khan, MLA Raja Javed Iqbal and other people addressed the conference in the parliament
The Prime Minister of Azad Kashmir Raja Farooq Haider Khan said, protection of rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir specially sureity of right of self-determination is legal obligation of international community specially United Nations. The International community must stop India from atrocities against the Kashmiris.
He also urged the EU to pay immediate attention on human rights of Kashmiris instead of trade with Indian regime. We are deprived of right of self-determination and international community specially EU should help us in order to get freedom from Indian authorities.
AJK’s PM said, Kashmir is territory of both sides of Kashmir and no body can stop Kashmiris from crossing the line of control (LoC) in order to meet each other. He highly appreciated the efforts of Kashmir Council EU for highlighting the Kashmir issue in Europe.
Senior Minister of AJK Ch Tariq Farooq said, bilateralism does not work between India and Pakistan. So, international community must interfere and sought out an acceptable resolution of Kashmir issue under UN resolutions.
Appreciating Kashmir Council EU headed by Mr Ali Raza Syed, MEP Sajjad Karim said, it was almost difficult to the raise name of Kashmir at EU parliament but Mr Ali Raza Syed and his team made it probable through their great efforts. It is important to mention that Sajjad Karim is host of the Kashmir EU Week in the Eurpean Parliament for many years.
Chairman Kashmir Council EU Ali Raja Syed suggested close cooperation among the Kashmir diaspora abroad in order to raise the Kashmir issues at international level effectively.
He said, the diaspora has ability to make bridge between international community and Kashmiris specially connection of people suffering from Indian brutalities with the world outside of the Kashmir.
Referring to free trade agreement between India and EU, the MEP from UK Wajid Khan said, EU should give priority to human right instead of trade and money. He also called international community to fulfil promises under UN resolutions for right of self-determination of the Kashmiris. He also hailed the struggle of Kashmir Council Eurpope including arrangement of Kashmir EU Week in the context of Kashmir issue in EU.
Daniel Caron, the former member of Brussels Parliament suggested enhanced exchange of delegations between EU and Kashmir.
He said, frequent visits of Kashmiri figures to EU and EU’s officials and other important figures to Kashmir would help in better understanding among the Europeans about Kashmir problem.
MLA for Overseas in AJK’s Assembly Raja Javed Iqbal also demanded EU to make efforts for preventing human rights violations in Indian Occupied Kashmir.
Researcher and Journalist Syed Sibtain Shah, Tariq But and Atiq ur Rehman from UK, Kent Roy and others also spoke on the occasion.
Opening of a photos’ exhibition in afternoon Tuesday at EU parliament was also part of Kashmir EU Week’s programmes which would be mostly be continued till 12th November.
The photos exhibition on Kashmir which was inaugurated by AJK Prime Minister would be visited by the masses in next ten days. Briefing on the occasion, Chairman Kashmir Council EU said, the photographs from Indian Held Kashmir are produced by a noted French photographer Cédric Gerbehaye.
The Kashmir EU Week’s programme is being organised by Kashmir Council EU with the collaboration of other EU based Kashmiri organisations and a large people specially members of EU parliament, experts, intellectuals, human rights activists and scholars from Europe, Pakistan and Kashmir attended the today events of the EU week.
Kashmir Council EU has so far held several programmes including conferences, seminars, meetings and debates on Kashmir and many of the programmes were arranged at European diplomatic, political, research and educational institutions.
